This extraordinary Ecotourism trip from Havana to Trinidad City will let you explore the superb nature Cuba has to offer; verdant, thick jungle, tumbling waterfalls into bright blue pools, and white sand beaches meeting the turquoise sea. This exciting, authentic trip will show you the stunning natural landscapes, flora, and fauna, plus just enough cultural experiences sprinkled in. This is truly the way to see “the real Cuba”
You’ll arrive in Havana city, and we’ll transport you to your choice of hotel (Capri, Meliá Habana, or Parque Central) to settle in and enjoy dinner and a relaxing evening. You have an exciting week ahead! After an early breakfast, your adventure begins! A bus will take you to Trinidad City in Sancti Spiritus Province, but en route, you’ll visit the extraordinary natural setting of Montemar Park in the Zapata Swamps. There you will be able to visit the crocodile farm, and take a boat ride along the Treasure Lagoon, the biggest natural lagoon in Cuba and the greatest marsh in the Caribbean! Following that, you’ll visit the reproduction of an aboriginal village called “Guamá”, and then enjoy lunch in this natural setting. Back on the bus to Trinidad, you’ll stop briefly in Cienfuegos, a lovely small city known as “The Pearl of the South”, and the José Martí Park. Upon arriving in Trinidad City you’ll check in at the Hotel Los Helechos, which is perched on a peak of the Topes de Collantes in a breathtaking nature reserve park. Following a buffet breakfast, you’ll begin your tour through Guanayara Park. Trucks will transport you to a beautiful spot in the mountains where the trek will truly start. There you will enjoy the jaw-dropping landscapes, and will see the Royal Palm Tree, the national tree of Cuba;
La Mariposa or “The Butterfly Flower”, the national flower of Cuba; and a great variety of native birds including the Tocororo, the national bird of Cuba! After that you will arrive at Guanayara waterfall, which gives its name to this spectacular park. You will continue the ecotourism tour along the river with the option to follow the guide for “the Rambo Tour”, which will have you traversing the river both swimming and hiking. To conclude the day you’ll visit another stunning waterfall, “El Rocío” (the dew), which falls into the natural pool known as “El Venado” (the deer), where the waters quiet and become transparent. Then you’ll definitely be ready for a traditional Cuban lunch of roast pork, roast chicken, congri (black beans and white rice cooked together), dressed manioc and tarro, fried smashed plantain, seasonal salad, and some homemade dessert. Return to Hotel Los Helechos to rest or enjoy the pool and a buffet dinner. Enjoy the hotel bar, or if you feel energetic, go to the nearby disco Day 4 After breakfast the ecotourism tour begins at El Cubano Park, where you’ll be offered a welcome cocktail before starting the walk through the “Traces of the History” trail. During the ecotourism tour you will enjoy the many natural attractions of this protected area, concluding this trek with a refreshing swim at the Javira Falls. At Los Almendros Restaurant, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch before an afternoon ecotourism tour around Trinidad City to check out local attractions and do some sightseeing. This city visit will include seeing Plaza Mayor (a UNESCO world heritage site), the city church, the house of culture of the province, and La Canchánchara- a bar with Cuban music, where you can taste several refreshing drinks. We’d recommend the “Canchánchara”, prepared with honey, lemon juice and eau-de-vie or aguardiente (a very strong liquor). After the tour of Trinidad you will be brought back to the hotel for a buffet dinner and another relaxing evening to rest for the next day’s adventures!
Day 5 : After breakfast at the hotel, you’ll travel by car to the Ancón Península, where you will board a vessel toward the Cayo Blanco (white key). The sea pools that surround Cayo Blanco are populated with exquisite corals in tranquil warm waters.The ecotourism tour will include a welcome cocktail and lunch at the key, and transport back to the hotel for another refreshing night. Follow the modernized foot trail up the mountain through the lush jungle to where the air is chill. There, you’ll find lovely natural pools under truly extraordinary waterfalls, in which the water is slightly cooler than you’re likely to find elsewhere. Explore this place completely- at the top is an incredible panorama, and at the base is an isolated pool. This is truly a must-see for your trip to the area.
