Explore Havana, Discover Cuba
Rum, cigars, picturesque beauty, and historical architecture —Cuba at its best!

Characterization:

You will be part of a special group that gets to see inside one of the finest factories and one of Havana’s best secrets. You can feel the history of stately Colonial Havana, enjoy the vibrancy of modern Havana, and learn the secrets behind two of Cuba’s best-known products: rum and tobacco.

DESCRIPTION:

Colonial Meets Contemporary

Nowhere encapsulates the historical charm and modern vibrancy of Cuba quite like Havana. With over 500 years of history, this port city remains one of the country’s most important commercial centres. It’s also one of its greatest tourist attractions. With architecture from every major period of the nation’s history — from baroque castles bespeaking European settlement to modern high-rises like those found in any other major city — a visit to Havana is like a trip through time.

Rum and Cigars — The Heart of Cuban Commerce  Culture

Odds are when you think of Cuba, you think of rum and/or cigars. The country has long been known as a fine purveyor of both. Visit a tobacco factory and the rum museum to discover the long traditions involved in the making of these major Cuban exports. You’ll come to understand why they are so integral to Cuban culture, and why Cuban rum and cigars are considered the best in the world.

Scenic Beauty  Literary Lunching

A stop in Bacunayagua is the perfect picture opportunity, with dramatic views of the Yumuri Valley and surrounding landscape. Check out the Bacunayagua Bridge, considered a marvel of civil engineering.

You’ll also enjoy lunch at El Floridita, famous for its daiquiris and its previous clientele — Ernest Hemingway was a regular.

Get your camera ready! You’ll feel on top of the world when you look out over the Yumuri Valley and the vast, beautiful Cuban landscape. These are the photos your friends will be jealous of when you post them to social media!

At 110 metres above the valley floor, the Bacunayagua Bridge is the highest bridge in Cuba. No wonder they call it a wonder of civil engineering!

Next Up: Havana Vieja (Old Havana)
Next Up: Havana Vieja (Old Havana)

Old Havana has been undergoing restoration efforts and is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The many plazas showcase the city’s multi-century history, while still appealing to the modern visitor with cultural and shopping destinations.

Though now merely part of a larger city, Old Havana is marked by the walls of the original settlement founded by the Spanish in the 1500s. As a port city, Old Havana was the perfect resting stop for treasure-laden galleons travelling between Europe and the New World. Today, it’s a perfect destination for tourists seeking a social, historical, or cultural understanding of Cuba.

Time for Rum — Yum!
Time for Rum — Yum!

While gold was coming into Havana from Spain and other European destinations, rum was going out. Cuba produces one of the best-selling brands of rum in the world, Havana Club. A visit to the Havana Club Museum of Rum makes it clear just why this brand is so popular. It also offers insight into the impact rum has had on the culture and development of Cuba as a nation. Experience the rum-making process first-hand —including a taste of the final product, of course!

Lunch at El Floridita
Lunch at El Floridita

A popular hangout for Hemingway when he was in Cuba, El Floridita, or Piña de Plata, was established in the 1800s. Its food and ambience are a perfect blend of traditional Cuban culture with modern influences. Definitely try one of the famous daiquiris!

Snuff Factory
Snuff Factory

If it’s not rum that Cuba’s known for, it’s cigars. Explore the process behind Cuba’s other major export at a working tobacco factory. Like rum, tobacco plays a major role in Cuba’s economy and culture, both historically and today. It was reportedly the indigenous Taino people of Cuba who introduced the Spaniards to tobacco in the days of Columbus. Today, Cuban cigars are coveted the world over. Perhaps take a few home with you.

A must be happy because you are in Cuba!

This day was beautiful, the driver and guide was very good. The local producers of tobacco and coffee were very friendly and their explanations were very clear. We enjoyed the equestrian walk in this beautiful landscape and we ate very well in the restaurant included in the excursion. Very rich and very good! Thank you
