Our tour will begin promptly at 8:30 am, where we will whisk you away from your hotel to the old city of Matanzas, which is home to the Valley of Yumuri, Parque La Libertad, the Caves of Bellamar, Cueva de Saturno, and the historical Dionisia.
These destinations are the must-see attractions of this tour that will make for an exciting voyage throughout Cuba’s delightful countryside.
Esteemed as one of the most striking valleys in Cuba, the Valley of Yumuri is sure to take your breath away. Take in the majestic gorge surrounding the 80 hectare plain, of which its flora and fauna fall within the city of Matanzas’ protected area status. You’ll discover the Valley’s indigenous history behind its creation and name, and take in the rural landscape of lush greenery, including countless Royal Palms, and rivers which flow through.
A pit stop at the Parque La Libertad will thrust you back in time, a time of Revolution and and significance for the city of Matanzas.
This park is not only a delightful gathering area steep with recreation, colorful conversation, and cultural activities, but it is also formerly the Plaza de Armas, a meeting place for revolutionists who plotted to overthrow the government. Marvel at the sculptures decorating the square, one of a chained woman shouting “Freedom!” and the other of Cuba’s Revolutionary Party Founder.
Several important and characteristic buildings surround this park, and it is truly one of the purest looks at Matanzas.
Travel underground to one of the oldest attractions in Cuba:The Bellamar Caves.
These caves boast the title of longest and deepest natural caves in Cuba, and are truly a sight to behold. You’ll travel down several sets of steps into the humid cavern below, only to marvel at numerous gorgeous natural formations such as stalactites and stalagmites, crystals, fountains,and limestone domes along your journey through these caves.
Learn of the traces of Indigenous history that have been found here in the form of paintings and fossils.
An exciting boat ride along the Caminar River will invigorate your senses as you make your way to the beautiful Cueva de Saturno, or Saturn Caves.
This natural wonder will immerse you in a land of sparkling waters and abundant marine life. Famous for its translucent waters, this is the perfect opportunity to take a leisurely swim and relax in the warm freshwater natural pool. Adventure-seekers will be enchanted by the natural formations and sea creatures below, as they scuba dive or snorkel to discover angel fish, moray, lobsters, and shrimp.
You’ll make the journey from waters to plains as you make your way to La Dionisia, an experience in Cuba’s plantation history. Discover the fascinating history behind this farmland,and learn of the old coffee plantation housed here. Explore the haunting ruins of the Cafetal Buena Vista, Cuba’s oldest restored coffee plantation, built by Haitian French Refugees in 1801.
Antique buildings surround this brilliant location, as well as the ancient grindstone and homes belonging to the plantation’s slaves.
After your historical expedition you’ll enjoy a delicious authentic Creole lunch and drink, filling
your belly with rich meat and rice dishes, leaving you nourished and satisfied. After lunch, take in some of the activities on the arm, including horseback riding, or simply let yourself relax as
