Trinidad, Cuba, Retains Old-World Opulence; El Nicho, Natural Beauty
History comes alive amidst the natural beauty of Cienfuegos province
This tour combines history, culture, and nature with a scenic trip to an historic town and museum on the way to a mountain hideaway known for natural waterfalls and swimming pools.
With hills on one side and sea on the other, Cienfuegos province houses some of Cuba’s most beautiful natural landscapes. Its fertile soil once made it the heart of the sugar trade, and agriculture remains a prominent feature of its economy today. Explore the varied natural landscape and rich history of this province as you transit Cardenas, Carlos Rojas, and other picturesque destinations on your way to Trinidad, Cuba.
Trinidad is one of the best-preserved sites from the days of Cuba’s sugar-boom. Its narrow cobblestone streets will make you feel like you’re back in the 18th century. A visit to the impeccably preserved Palacio Cantero Museum will only further the feeling.
Once home to a wealthy sugar-mill owner, Palacio Cantero retains its original grandeur and many of the fine artworks and now-antique furnishings that made it a hub of high society. You’ll get a taste of the time with traditional Cuban canchánchara, then enjoy some free time to explore.
El Nicho is Cuba’s natural waterpark. This series of waterfalls and natural pools provides the perfect place to swim, float, or just dip your toes in the water. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch and plenty of time to bathe, relax, and explore the surrounding trails.
