This beautiful Cuban city has some of the best-preserved colonial architecture outside of Havana. Located in Southern Cuba, it was originally settled by Taino indigenous people, then by French immigrants in the 19 th century. Renamed when it became a town in 1829, Cienfuegos literally means “one hundred fires” and became a thriving port city due to the fertile fields around it to grow sugar, one of Cuba’s biggest exports.
You’ll discover the colonial beauty of this era and its role in La Revolucion. Wander the streets and discover the six Neoclassical buildings that UNESCO designated as some of the best examples of 19 th century architecture in the world. Shop, take pictures, and enjoy this wonderful city!
Your breath will be taken away at these amazing waterfalls, located in the heart of the province. Follow the Path of the Butterflies to the Poceta of Desires. Bath in natural pools fed by a series of waterfalls and set among the tree-lined Escambray Mountains.
