We know you – you’re a serious fisherman or woman! And now, you’ll get to experience the best of Cuba fly fishing on this wonderful 6 nights – 7 days trip atop Cuba’s crystal-blue waters. Aboard your very own 19-foot motorboat with four friends, you’ll sail the tropical seas and spend five days fishing for rare and beautiful fish while enjoying the sea air, beautiful sunshine, and refreshing ocean winds.
Located on the southeastern tip of the beautiful island of Cayo Guillermo, this marina at Cayo Paredón Grande is known for its amazing catamaran tours, glass-bottom boats, and fishing. This is your embarkation point – you’ll leave and return to this jetty every single day. And every day you’re fishing on the open seas, you’ll get an open bar and a sumptuous Cuban-style lunch to keep you going. Your trip also includes transfer from the hotel and back, and a fishing licence.
Because you are fly fishing, you’ll be stationed at Cayo Coco, about 45 minutes away from the fishing base at Cayo Paredón, which is a beautiful beach surrounded by crystal-blue ocean water. But the hour’s drive will be well worth it! Think of it as a way to take in some Cuban countryside while you race towards your fishing adventure!
With specialized crews and fly fishing gear, you’ll be fully outfitted to make that big catch. The best type of fishing in this area is the fly and spinning reel-type – and you can expect to catch bonefish, tarpons, and more. Your guides will help you determine the best fish to catch that day! Guides may also explain conservation efforts and a bit about the landscape you’re seeing, so you can be a fully informed fisherman (not that we didn’t think you weren’t!).
The best time to fish is from May 1 to September 30th. Every day will be 8 glorious hours of fishing under the sun, from 9-4. Ready to get started? Read below to discover what’s in store for you on this unique and special holiday!
Climb off the plane and breathe in the beautiful warm Caribbean air as you step onto the tropical land of Cuba at Cayo Coco airport. Your minibus will be waiting to take you to an all-inclusive hotel, so that after you’re finishing your fishing day, you can come back and relax in the pool, get a drink or two, and have the concierges bring you snacks as you relax under the setting sun. You’ll check in here, then have the rest of the day for free exploration and preparation for your next day of fishing! Get ready – you’ll be riding the open seas for the next five days!
Enjoy an early Cuban-style breakfast to tank you up for the day on the water at the hotel! You’ll get a ride down to the marina (about 45 minutes’ drive) and then be introduced to the boats you’ll be using for the day and given your gear. Your boat will be a Yamaha 40-60HP – perfect for your fly-fishing adventure! Your guide will carefully explain to you the safety features involved and help you keep track of your fishing gear. Then, motor out on the crystal-clear water to your specialized fishing spot. As you ride, your guide will explain to you what you can expect from the fish available, and the best ways to catch them in the deep sea. They are well-versed in fly fishing, and will be able to advise you of their expertise!
Pay close attention to your surroundings – this part of the island is unique in its flora and fauna. You’ll get to spot tropical birds, animals, and even rarities like endangered fish and sea life! Of course, you won’t be disturbing this natural habitat – your guides will tell you what you’ll get to catch that day and the safest and best way to conserve the wildlife and natural beauty. The scent of flowers and the fresh air will invigorate you as you speed across the beautiful waters!
You’ll have a lovely lunch in the boat as you enjoy the fresh sea breezes in your hair and sunshine on your face. After a day of fishing – and hopefully catching! – you’ll be driven back to the hotel for dinner. Experience a great night show with traditional dancing and singing, and if you’re into nightlife, you can travel to a night club to enjoy some more dancing and partying. Just make sure that you’re in bed and sleeping peacefully to rest up for the next day of fishing!
All good things must come to an end! After breakfast, you’ll check out and be taken to the airport depending on your flight time. While your holiday is over, your memories of being king or queen of the sun and water will continue forever! And that fish you’ve caught will taste great, too!
